ROLE OF SCIENCE TEACHER IN BUILDING SOCIETY

 According to Dr.S. Radhakrishnan, “The teacher’s place in society is of vital importance. He acts as the pivot for the transmission of intellectual traditions and technical skills from generation to generation and helps to keep the lamp of civilization burning.” As per Madan Mohan Malavia, the founder of Banaras Hindu University, the world’s second largest residential university, a teacher is, “It lies largely in his teacher’s hand to mould the mind of the child who is father of the man. If he is patriotic and devoted to the national cause and realizes his responsibility, he can produce a race of patriotic men and women who would religiously place the country above the community and national gain above communal advantage.” these simple lines depict the role of a teacher in the society.  The role of a teacher in society is both significant and valuable. It has far-reaching influence on the society he lives in and no other personality can have an influence more profound than that of a teacher. In addition to these attributes, the role of a teacher is to acquire professionalism and ethics and abide by their own moral code and that of their school, while maintaining a commitment to confidentiality between students, colleagues and the community.

The world changes day by day and there are no doubt that the modern society is not the same as it was in the past. Education system has changed completely – nowadays being teacher does not mean only being a helper in difficult process of getting education; it means being creative and highly talented “guide”, which accompanies a student in all way of studying.

Science teachers in a society impart knowledge on day-to-day facts and reason out things which are observed and provide the students the power to question and interpret their knowledge and suggestions.

Science helps the student to acknowledge the facts based on experiments, observations and inferences, which is a judgment based on evidence. Science teacher keeps the pupils away from guesses and superstitions thus allowing the students to realize that misconceptions about some of the concepts are wrong and unreal;

Science teachers by making the students work with materials found in their environment and solving problems stimulate the curiosity of the students and ensure that the students do not get satisfied with vague explanations of things.

Science teachers can inculcate scientific attitudes, temper and habits in the students. Inculcation of scientific attitudes into the students encourages them to view facts objectively and free themselves from superstitions, thus developing an ability to think, imagine and be creative.

Science teachers instill knowledge on good habits of cleanliness, personal hygiene, and social hygiene. Science teachers are therefore a source of motivation for students to think independently. Science teachers thus enable students to discover new ideas and apply them to the world we live.

Science teachers thus can be considered as a great boon to the society that we live in.

There are certain rules which have traditionally been played by science teachers. Writers and politicians believe that teachers have the greatest part to play in society. Science teachers are the mirrors of society and a society which does no respect its teachers is bound to go in failure.

The social and psychological conditions under which we all live today have minimized. The role of a science teacher as national builder, it is of basic importance that science teacher should be good specimen of our culture they should be divide to the ideas that characterized the purpose at their best. They should sure these ideas effectively.

The students must be educated to become the instruments to develop an integrated nation out of our diversities. They must be made acquainted with noble humanistic sentiments of our constitution and impressed with the passion to translate them in to socio-political realities.It is education that instills the capacity to discriminate between the two and the courage to reject what is bad and irrelevant and weakening. During education, our youth must be helped to identify and retain the positive elements and pass them on to the next generation after strengthening them with their own contribution.
